Did God really say…?

“Did God really say…?” The serpent’s ploy through the ages.

Deceiver. Casting doubt on God’s Word.

Casting doubt on God.

Casting doubt.

Deceiver. Twisting His command. And intent.

Then misleading the listener. About the outcome of disobedience.

Deceiver

You will know more, the deceiver whispers. Be more fulfilled. Feel more alive. Experience independence.

Gain power. Passion. Possessions.

But the reality, in the end?

Just a glance at Genesis 3 reveals sobering truth.

Sin leads to nakedness. Exposure. Shame. Pain.

Futility.

Death.

Dust.

Did God really say?

“Did God really say…?” Subtle words of the serpent.  Tempting man and woman to eat forbidden fruit.

And they do. Adam and Eve sin.

But in the aftermath of their sin, God doesn’t shun. He seeks.

Pursuing the disobedient.

Calling them out. To confess. And hear judgment for their foolishness. Yes, they will die.

God then provides.

Their homemade leaves-sewn-together are not enough. No, God clothes them. Covering their nakedness through a death.

Death of a living creature.

But God

The serpent slithers away on the ground. And thinks biting the heel will be his victory.

He steals. Kills. And destroys.

But God. In His ordained moment in time, sends His Son. And the heel of Jesus Christ crushes the old serpent’s head. Through his death on the cross.

Holy triumph. For life is in the blood.

And His resurrection on the third day proclaims the victory. Over sin and death.

This is the gospel. The power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.

Victory

“‘Death has been swallowed up in victory.
Where, death, is your victory?
Where, death, is your sting?’
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!”
1 Corinthians 15:54b-57

So, when the deceiver says “Did God really say…?”, repeat the gospel. Remember His victory.

Speak His Word and meditate on His truth. For this is what God really says.

And He is Faithful and True. Forever. Alleluia.

What about you?

Have you ever heard the words “Did God really say…”? How will you counter lies of the deceiver with the gospel today?

One reply on “Did God really say…?”

Yesterday in our small group study, I asked the others if they thought that the voice in their head saying critical things was God’s voice – no one said it was! I reminded them that we don’t correct the grammar of a child expressing love. When they say “Me loz u” we accept it and love them back! The eternal and holy God accepts us and loves us – proof is in Christ!

I would love to hear from you!
