Trust in the Lord

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart….” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

All? Yes, all. Not the part. But the whole.

“Search me, O God and know my heart…” (Psalm 139:23-24)  And He does. Revealing hidden chambers. Locked tight. Corners where I hold fast to self-reliance. Secrets. Pride. Fear.

Can I trust Him with even these?  Yes.

Do not rely

Oh, and by the way. In this journey to holy, whole-hearted trust, “do not rely on your own understanding.”

Do not lean against. Or stand on your own insight and discernment. For that situation. This crisis. Those worst-case scenarios.

We don’t know as much as we think we know.

One time a friend told me, “If God doesn’t want you leaning on your own understanding in this situation, He certainly doesn’t want you leaning on your own misunderstanding.”

True. But how easily I slip into this. Thinking I have a handle on how it should all play out. “I’ve got this.”

Know Him

“In all your ways know Him….” All? Yes.

Hear Moses pray, “If You are pleased with me, teach me Your ways so I may know You….” (Exodus 33:13). And take the challenge from Oswald Chambers, “Begin to know Him now and finish never.”

Knowing Him is the lifelong pursuit. In all your ways. Day by day. Moment by moment.

Abiding in Christ through prayer and the Word of God. That you may know Him. Seek His face. Walk in His ways. Rest in His presence.

Straight paths

“…and He will make your paths straight.”

Straight paths. How? I look. And see so many twists and turns in the average path of His children. The path He directs.

Straight? It’s in the focus. The lifted head. Keeping our eyes on the goal. And abiding in Him. Firmly rooted.

He is our straight path.

Trust

Through storm and gale-force winds. In the unknown, the untraveled, the inexperience.

He is the Way. Always.

Trust. Trust in the Lord.

“May the Lord direct your hearts to God’s love
and Christ’s endurance.”
2 Thessalonians 3:5

What about you?

How have you learned to trust God with your whole heart? What helps you keep your eyes on Him? Have you experienced some memorable turns in the path?

This was the passage that God used to capture my heart and soul when I was not yet a believer. It was the time when life suddenly didn’t make sense to me and questioned everything about it.. “Why do we even exist? What is it for?”… which led to my depression. And so, I was desiring death. But these simple, yet powerful words led me to seek who this God is and trusted those mysterious words… It was an unknown pursuit in the beginning but later on learned that it was the Truth about life… I’m so, so thankful.

These lockdown weeks (months) have shown me some closets of my own control that I’ve been ignoring. Happenings outside my comfy apartment have definitely shown me that my understanding is limited. This post brings to mind a picture drawn in a journal several years ago. And that was during a typhoon… I sense a pattern 😉 Slowing down. Listening. He is SO good to me.

One of my life verses. How often do I fall when I lean on my own understanding!! I must admit the path doesn’t always seem straight, but I think it means more righteous and the right path. Always a good reminder.

I would love to hear from you!
