The greatest Treasure

One Christmas in Karachi. Mary’s travel to Bethlehem in her pregnancy catches my attention. And imagination.

I’m expecting our second child at the time. Struggling with all-day sickness. I put myself in her shoes. On the rough road from Nazareth.

Arriving. Travel weary. And finding no place to stay.
Making do in temporary quarters. Where animals are kept.

Giving birth.
Away from home and the familiar.
Placing a newborn in the feeding trough.

Yet, treasure. In the midst of it all. She holds the Savior of the world in her arms.

Come and see

“Come and see,” the psalmist says in Psalm 66. I hear the invitation. To see the works of God. Remember His awesome acts.

And in one brief sentence, the writer speaks volumes.

“He turned the sea into dry land;
They passed through the river on foot.”
Psalm 66:6

Succinctly said. But the people know. These are two indelible markers on their journey with God.

The sea and the river. Deliverance and entering the promised land.

Lost

From a young age, I heard about Jesus and His love. Sang songs about Him. Listened as my parents read Bible stories. Our family prayed often.  I was loved and cared for.

And yet.

And yet I was lost. Fearful. Felt the darkness. Something wasn’t right. And I knew it. “Do not lie” seemed to compel me toward that very thing. Lying.

Something wasn’t right and I knew it…
