Slow walk in the Word

Read through the Bible in a year. I take the challenge years ago. And eventually it becomes a regular practice. Using various plans. McCheyne’s. Or our church’s outline for the congregation.

Sometimes I take a year. Other times, two.

The daily plunge covers a lot of ground through the Old and New Testaments. A big-picture look at Scripture.

The breadth and depth of His Word challenges and captivates me.

Reflect and trust

The candle flame moves. Flickers. Casting large shadows on the walls. I sit in the edges of its light.

All the celebrations of last week give way to winter quiet.  Time to remember and reflect. Looking towards the future.

In past seasons there was little time for this quiet space. A long one, anyway. The season of raising three young children comes to mind.

Even then, the hurry in my soul needed me to sit. Rest. Looking to the One who knows my days.

Winter pause

calendarIt’s the week between. The winter pause that happens after Christmas celebrations and before New Year’s resolutions. I’ve pulled out the calendar and retrieved 2017 journals to take a look back. To remember and reflect on life experiences, turns in the road, significant “spiritual markers” like those Henry Blackaby referred to in Experiencing God.
