Pressing in

In other readings of Luke 5, I’ve passed over these words. But this time they grab my attention. Verse 1 says the crowd was “pressing in on Jesus to hear God’s Word.”

Pressing in. Yearning for what is real and true.

Sometimes it’s the hunger of my soul to draw near and hear God’s Word. Other times it’s the fruit of a formed habit. Pure and simple discipline.

Regardless, I know abiding in His Word is essential. Necessary.

When I am afraid

“When I am afraid, I will trust in You, I will trust in You, I will trust in You….In God whose Word I praise.”

Steve Green’s “Hide ‘Em in Your Heart” recording of Scripture songs for children played often in our home. But this particular song was on repeat in my mind. On my lips.

Even after the kids were in bed fast asleep.

Mystery revealed

The look on her face is one of awe. Sheer wonder.

“It is hard to imagine,” she says. “I never dreamed God could be like that.”

I am watching mystery revealed. A startling front row view of how He works.
