“This feels like an earthquake.”
Every week brings news of another person, couple, or family leaving. Exiting an area of the world where we live and serve at the time.
They retire early. Or move back home to pursue something new.
It starts large. Shaking hard. Then we feel tremor after tremor.
Enough to unsteady the feet.
And trouble the mind.

Overwhelmed
We’re scrambling for stability. Overwhelmed with the task before us.
Wondering how to fill gaps that remain.
In the midst of spiritual darkness dominating large populations, our small numbers decrease.
Becoming even smaller.
And we start feeling like maybe this is a Gideon situation.
Psalm 99
One morning, I lay all these concerns before the Lord. Journal heart cries. Say it aloud.
Checking my daily reading plan, I turn to Psalm 99. And the first verse says it.
Plain as day.
“The Lord reigns!
Let the people tremble.
He is enthroned between the cherubim.
Let the earth quake.”
Psalm 99:1
Earthquake
“Let the earth quake.”
The words sink into my heart. Settle in the crevices of fear and doubt.
Clarity moves in. I hear it.
Don’t resist the upheaval. This earthquake.
Don’t fight sudden change.
Trust.
Trust
Trust the One who sits on His throne.
He is holy. He is exalted.
Trust the true Mover and Shaker of the universe.
He is our stability.
When things are rocking and rolling, the Lord steadies our hearts.
His ways
He sees beyond the current earthquake and its subsequent tremors.
His ways are not our ways. But they are full of hope.
Living hope.
He has a plan. And a purpose. Seek His face.
Let nothing be wasted!
What about you?
Have you experienced personal earthquakes and the subsequent tremors? How has the Lord taught you His ways in the midst of upheaval?

Trust. It was the word God thrust on me in June. Trust; not for the future, not for the year, month, week, or day, but for the moment. My humanness was forced to focus only for the moment, for it could not encompass how to trust any further without losing my grasp on his goodness.
Thank you for reminding me that I need to continue to remain in his present care and trust him for just this moment until I am able to gain strength in my spiritual muscles to hold on stronger and further.
Dear Nancy, you are teaching us as you trust Him in the moment. Thank you. Praying for you!
I had the honor of praying with a young person at church who is going through a friendship crisis and this helps me have words to pray for that situation! Thank you!
