Rise early in the morning. Just in time to walk out in the dark and witness the first edge of dawn. Pushing light against silhouetted trees, houses. Flooding pale hues of color across the sky.
No matter what happened the day before, whatever is taking place in this season—somehow the break of day clears the dark.
Renews. Refreshes.
All that’s hidden by the night is rapidly revealed in the ever-increasing illumination of day.
A day that’s never been. And the birds are singing like crazy.
New every morning
I wonder if the prophet was watching such a sky when he wrote:
“Because of the Lord’s faithful love, we do not perish, for his mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23).
New every morning.
Even in the midst of lament, a morning song of hope.
New year
This week we greet the dawn of the new year.
A year that’s never been.
And this rhythm of “out with the old, in with the new” signals a fresh start.
We gain perspective looking back at the year that’s been. Clarity about what’s important.
Then anticipate what lies ahead.
And walk into it by faith.
His Word and His Spirit
His Word rises to illuminate the unknown. The hidden. It is the lamp for our feet, the light for our path.
His Spirit equips us for whatever lies before us. Our calendars have plans penciled in, but only the Lord knows what truly lies ahead.
So we walk, rejoicing that His Presence goes with us as the path unfolds before us day by day by day.
Be strong and courageous
Be strong and courageous, friends.
His mercies will be new every morning this year.
The Lord is with you. Always.
Great is His faithfulness.

Beautiful, Susan. New songs will be forthcoming. Already in the works, in fact. Thank you!
No matter what happened yesterday, last year, daybreak and the new year push it into the past. The anticipation of what God has for us This Year! I’m enjoying your writings.
Amen, Brent. So glad you continue to make music and write songs! Grace and peace to you.
Past difficulties can cloud my heart the way that rain clouds hide the sun, but remembering HIS faithfulness clears the clouds! Thanks for the reminder!
Yes! We walk by faith but it’s a faith strengthened in remembrance of Who He is and what He has done. Grace to you, sister.
