Enemy at the gate

Enemy at the gate. In our everyday lives. Enemy of our souls–the deceiver.

Making promises that entice. Feeding our longing for things to be easy. Comfortable.

Highlighting our fears of future unknowns. Making us wonder about God’s good purpose. His ordained plan.

Sometimes it’s tempting to give in to the lie. What sounds better. Almost true.

Unexpected surrender

Unexpected surrender started with an invitation. Out of the blue. To consider a role in the U.S.

And our immediate thought? No. Can’t be right. Our calling is cross-cultural. Among the nations.

Besides, we weren’t ready to leave South Asia and her people. The place had wrestled its way into our hearts.

Then another ask came. To focus on megacities in South Asia. Surely that’s the one, we thought. Fits our heart and skill set. New city. Same area of the world.

Safest place

We heard it repeated. Often. “Being in the center of God’s will is the safest place to be.”

Well, yes.

But safest can be interpreted in different ways.

We were living in a city where Taliban congregated and proliferated.

One political party’s slogan read “Sell your televisions and buy guns.” As they sought to overthrow the ruling party by force.

Safest was not the first word that came to mind.

Safest place.
