Obedience

Make obedience a burden. Something to dread. Avoid. That’s what the world tries to do.

In today’s idol listings, personal fulfillment and independence rise up. Insisting we not be tied down. Or restricted by God’s commands.

“Too many requirements,” the world says.

Walk by faith

Yet, the Maker of the universe has a pretty good handle on the way of life. The One who plans from eternity to eternity is not about haphazard and random power plays.

He knows the big picture. Beauty in design and strategic form.

Master of details. Never failing to surprise His children. Revealing purpose.

As we wait on Him. And walk by faith.

His commands

“His commands are not burdensome,” John writes (1 John 5:3).

Why? Because we live by faith.

And whoever is born of God has overcome the world. Along with its narrow views of commands and obedience.

“Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God” (1 John 5:5).

With Him

So. When the world belittles His commands. And decries the restrictions. Remember.

Remember Whose you are. Turn your eyes upon Jesus.

Draw near and learn from Him.

Because without Him? We can do nothing.

With Him? His yoke is easy and His burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30).

Freedom of obedience

The psalmist says, “I run in the path of Your commands, for You have broadened my understanding (Psalm 119:32 NIV).

And “I will walk freely in an open place because I study Your precepts” (Psalm 119:45).

Keep walking and running the race. In the freedom of obedience.

He is worthy.

What about you?

When did you discover freedom in obedience?

“freedom in obedience” – when I said yes to go and follow Him wherever!! Also, just today in following His leading in something that I did not want to do because of selfishness but when i obeyed – wow what freedom, to know that I choose His way and pleased His heart, there is nothing better! Thankful that He always gives you the words to write that hit home!

We were discussing Peter’s second letter this week and the long list of things he encourages us to add to our faith – but he also said God gives us ALL WE NEED to live a godly life! God’s way is better and I obey His wisdom to acknowledge that I don’t know what I need.

Psalm 16:6 The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.
