Declaration

Over and over. Ezekiel repeats the phrases.

“The word of the Lord came to me.”

“This is what the Lord God says.”

“This is the declaration of the Lord God.”

A rhythm. Keeping the Lord prominent. Essential. To all the prophet pens on the page.

The word of the Lord came to Ezekiel.

Paths and prophets

Ancient paths. The image fixed in my mind is a smooth clay trail in the bamboo forest. A path of my childhood. Worn by years of feet traveling from one ridge to the next. Winding through the valley. Around boulders and past simple thatch homes.

Bamboo grove. Oil painting from Bandung, Indonesia.

It’s an old path. A good path. That takes me where I need to go.

Repent and believe

“Repent! Turn from your wicked ways.” Images of a street corner preacher flicker across my mind. My wicked ways as a child involved telling a lie about sneaking a piece of candy. Or pinching my brother and sister.  Or talking back to my parents. Hardly the stuff of dramatic “repent and believe” testimonies.

After I repented and believed as a child, I was baptized. Thus began my walk with the Lord. That initial “repent and believe” is the forever turning point in my life. The time Jesus saved me from my sin. He put His seal, the Holy Spirit, on my heart. I am His for eternity.
