Limited space

Gods of limited space.

The enemy reasons, “Their gods are gods of the hill country. That’s why they were stronger than we were…. We should fight with them on the plain; and we will certainly be stronger than they” (1 Kings 20:23).

Contained areas. Hills or plains. Mountains or valleys. These are where gods rule. Or so they think.

But the Arameans soon find out. This God is different.

Confession of our hope

This past week, the stories surface. Continually. Through emails. Personal posts. Press releases.

Believers holding on to the confession of our hope.

I’m watching for this. The declaration. The profession. The holding fast of Hebrews 10:23. “Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, since He who promised is faithful.”

And all week long, I hear them.

Their confessions affirm what is real. True. We are sure of what we hope for. Certain of what we do not see.

Sharing hope in the dark

We dodge auto rickshaws and taxis and goats, crossing a main road. Ten years ago in India.

Our guide asks if we can go to the red light district and pray.  Saying, “Be ready. The spiritual battle is intense.”

We step around the corner, into a lane. And I see them. Women in front of narrow doorways on a broken street. Some just sitting. Staring.

Others take care of daily tasks—cooking rice, washing clothes, feeding children.

Ordinary things.
