Confession of our hope

This past week, the stories surface. Continually. Through emails. Personal posts. Press releases.

Believers holding on to the confession of our hope.

I’m watching for this. The declaration. The profession. The holding fast of Hebrews 10:23. “Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, since He who promised is faithful.”

And all week long, I hear them.

Their confessions affirm what is real. True. We are sure of what we hope for. Certain of what we do not see.

Sharing hope in the dark

We dodge auto rickshaws and taxis and goats, crossing a main road. Ten years ago in India.

Our guide asks if we can go to the red light district and pray.  Saying, “Be ready. The spiritual battle is intense.”

We step around the corner, into a lane. And I see them. Women in front of narrow doorways on a broken street. Some just sitting. Staring.

Others take care of daily tasks—cooking rice, washing clothes, feeding children.

Ordinary things.

True sanctuary

The psalmist watches the wicked. And envy almost leads him astray. Almost.

Psalm 73 details what he sees. Chronicles his struggles with the why of their influence and power. Their wealth.

He wonders if the straight and narrow is worth the painful realities of his life.
