Meeting up with the rest of the team in Seattle. Then we fly together across the Pacific Ocean to Taiwan. There we’re scheduled to serve for ten weeks in various cities.
Suddenly, people on the plane start exclaiming. Calling others to look out the windows.
Clear, blue summer sky.
And we’re flying over snow-topped Mt. Rainier.
Magnificent.
The Lord is my Shepherd.
And He provides. Leads. Renews. Comforts.
Then I come to the table. His table.
“You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies…” (Psalm 23:5).
It hit me in a different way that day.
The gathering of family and friends to commission this latest group of sent ones. Newly trained. Now on their way. To places all over the globe.
It hit me when I saw the expressions. On parents’ faces.
Pride. Joy. Grief. And for some—uncertainty. Perhaps, even anger.
The time had come. For releasing their kids and grandkids. To travel across oceans and borders. Into a new and different life of serving in another culture.
