Moments of growth when God gives wisdom. And courage to take the next step. Boldness to enter something new.
Remember significant signposts in His Word.
And give thanks.
Spiritual markers
In the ‘90s we were at a retreat in Thailand. Henry Blackaby was speaking and encouraging us to consider and list spiritual markers in our lives.
Right in the middle of the conference, we were called out of the room and received terrible news.
Friends in Karachi, en route to work that morning, had stopped at a traffic light. And terrorists surrounded their vehicle.
Gunned them down in broad daylight. On a street we drove often.
Remembrance
One of those we knew was killed. Another, Todd’s tennis partner, was evacuated out of the country, severely injured.
Grief and fear filled my heart.
Friends at the conference spontaneously surrounded and prayed over us.
During those days, remembrance of God’s faithfulness and certain call sustained me.
Promises from His Word marking our path anchored me.
Giving courage to return.
Keeping track
I started keeping track of spiritual markers more consistently. Jotting them down on the inside cover of my Bible.
Dates with certain Scripture verses. Pointing to life decisions or challenges.
Promises given during daily time in the Word. Or heard in sermons and teaching. Marking specific twists and turns on the path.
Additions
If I get a new Bible, that list gets transferred.
And over the years, additions are made.
These have impacted my heart and mind in the midst of change. Steadying my soul in upheaval.
Calling me to obedience when I can’t see.
Assuring me He knows the way in the dark.
Hold fast
Sometimes we need lists of remembrance. Holding fast to what we know.
Giving thanks to God.
Recounting His faithfulness.
Resting on the solid rock of His Word.
Looking back at flagstones on the path, to keep moving forward in obedience.
Alleluia!

I mentioned Experiencing God and Henry Blackaby in a group recently and they responded with joy. That study was a very important step in my journey!
And one of my vivid memories is a personal conversation with Henry Blackaby about a burden God had placed on my heart.
We have often used Experiencing God overseas and in the States in talking about spiritual markers and knowing God’s will. Taking note of those important encounters with God keep us grounded and confident when hard times come. Remembering His faithfulness has so many benefits. Thanks for sharing your story.
