Underneath

Sometimes troubles flow. Underneath.

A running series of concerns. Questions darting here and there.

Waking in the night. Persistent through the day. Disquiet, rhythmic.

Children’s needs. Aging parents. Friends’ struggles.

Natural disasters. State of the world.

Future plans, uncertain.

You name it.

Underneath

Thing is, I don’t always recognize this is happening.

I might walk through a week without noticing or naming these troubling  streams. Growing. Flowing in the underneath.

Until suddenly they’re rushing up and over.

Worries tumbling about in the current.

Overtaking life.

I seek You

But in the midst, I seek You, Father. And sit at the table of Your Word.

Taking time to acknowledge You are Lord and King.

Over stops and starts. Rivers and floods.

Stormy thoughts.

Frail vessels.

You’re the Answer to every thread of “what if” winding in and out.

Abide in Me

And You speak into the thick of things.

The tangled questions and fears. Complex issues.

You speak peace. Order.

Simplicity.

“Abide in Me…for without Me, you can do nothing” (John 15:4,5).

Where else could I go, Lord? “For You have the words of eternal life.” (John 6:68).

I love you, Lord

Sometimes troubles flow. Underneath.

But You are tender. Compassionate.

And where my help comes from.

“Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30

What about you?

Do troubles underneath ever wake you in the night or disturb you during the day? How does the Lord help you look to Him?

We are hosting a ‘Date with 8’ from our Sunday School Class tomorrow night. We have an adequate house but only 100 square feet more than we were allowed overseas. I was worried, how would I seat everyone on my table for 6. I worried & prayed in the middle of the night and God said, you can make it work like you did at the TAJ house … add another table until you have enough seats. So a card table will be at the end of the table. It will work and I stopped worrying! It also gives me a chance to share a story from our time overseas. Thank you God!

I would love to hear from you!
