Words and more words. Flying across the internet.
Strutting through various forms of media. Selling incivility and foolishness.
Missives dismissive.
Declarations disruptive.
Treacherous.

Mute lectures
Compressed sentences on screens declare opinion. Attempt persuasion.
Mute lectures.
Planting seeds in homes and hearts. Young and old. Among the vulnerable. Unprepared.
Encountering this sometimes un-social media, we pull back. In the loud silence.
Sigh. And step away from the screen.
Words
Proverbs has a lot to say about words.
“When there are many words, sin is unavoidable, but the one who controls his lips is prudent” (Proverbs 10:19).
“The one who has knowledge restrains his words, and one who keeps a cool head is a person of understanding” (Proverbs 17:27).
“Pleasant words are a honeycomb: sweet to the taste and health to the body” (Proverbs 16:24).
Look to Him
“The one who guards his mouth protects his life; the one who opens his lips invites his own ruin” (Proverbs 13:3).
Speaking with integrity and wisdom out loud and on the screen is fruit of abiding in Christ. Through prayer and staying rooted in His Word. Participating in and staying accountable to His Body.
For without Him, we can do nothing.
So, in this day of many words we look to the Lord.
And pray.
True words
“The Lord’s eyes keep watch over knowledge, but He overthrows the words of the treacherous” (Proverbs 22:12).
Lord, we trust You to stand guard over knowledge.
Teach us what is true and noble. Factual and just. Pure and honorable. Lovely and commendable.
Help us to dwell on these things. And live in Your wisdom.
Holding fast and declaring what is true. In love.
Amen.
What about you?
In the onslaught of many words, how do you stand firm? What has the Lord taught you about responding in love?

I recently had someone acknowledge my words – saying they were kind – I praised God because I know that is His Spirit in me. Because without Him I am nothing!
Amen 🙂
