Lamp shining in a dark place. That’s what Peter calls it.
Truth speaking. Holding us steady while it is night.
So, pay attention. Watch and learn.
Until the Day dawns.
Read and study
Listen to the prophets’ words of His power and coming.
Read eyewitness accounts of His life on earth.
Detailing all that took place around the birth of the Son. Recording His words and works as He walked among us.
Tempted as we are. Yet living a sinless life.
Study His death on the cross. Burial in a borrowed tomb. And the resurrection.
Search accounts of His life after death, witnessed by over 500 people.
Remember
Remember that He sent the Holy Spirit to seal our salvation. And indwell believers.
Rejoice that His divine power gives us everything required for life. Everything required for godliness. Everything.
Remember. Because if we’re not growing in Him day by day, we tend to forget all that we have in Christ. Become short-sighted.
Which can lead to uselessness. Unfruitfulness. Stumbling on the path instead of walking in the Spirit. (2 Peter 1:2-11)
Lamp shining
We know these things.
But, as Peter says, we need reminders. And we must remind each other. To recall the Truth of our salvation. (2 Peter 1:12-15)
So pay attention to it. “As to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.” (2 Peter 1:19)
What about you?
How do you rehearse the truth of the gospel regularly? What helps you pay attention to it?

In addition to a Bible study group, I’ve found just reading scripture aloud for 30 mins a day has been the best way for me. Currently, I’m using a method from Keith Ferrin of reading the Gospels and Acts in 4 months, two weeks in each book, alternating Matthew-Acts-Mark-Acts-Luke-Acts-John-Acts.
Excellent. Thank you for sharing!
Our church is studying Luke and we walked through one of my favourite happenings yesterday.
The paralytic & his friends are such a great example of how we need each other and encourage each other.
But also, how did it feel when Jesus looked at him and said “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”
I asked the group to imagine!
Wonderful way to consider the truth of Scripture–and how it applies to our lives today. Thank you for sharing!
My daily, morning quiet time gives me time to abide in Him and be reminded.
Yes! So necessary to have that daily manna.
