Public square

The words of Isaiah resonate.

“Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands far off.
For truth has stumbled in the public square,
and honesty cannot enter.
Truth is missing,
and whoever turns from evil is plundered.”
Isaiah 59:14f

It sounds like a reading of our day.

Public square

We see it. Honesty struggles to enter the conversation. As truth stumbles in the public square.

Some who seek to do what is right and true are sued. Plundered. Slandered.

Somedays it appears deception and injustice command the public space. Even pushing their way into places of worship.

Subtly. And not-so-subtly.

Light in the darkness

But even in these moments, when evil appears to have the upper hand, You still shine light in the darkness.

Amid ruin and decay, the gospel keeps changing hearts and minds. Transforming lives.

Because our Redeemer lives. And salvation has come.

His truly is the victory. The hope of the world.

“They will fear the name of the Lord in the west and His glory in the east; for He will come like a rushing stream driven by the wind of the Lord. The Redeemer will come to Zion, and to those in Jacob who turn from transgression….”
Isaiah 59:19-20

What about you?

What brings you hope when truth stumbles in the public square?

Strangely, I am always encouraged by the prophets and the apostles writing to their contemporaries to warn of these things. It reminds me that our generation might be louder than previous ones but the struggle for Light and Truth has always existed.

I would love to hear from you!
