Leaving Egypt, God’s people learn His way.
They camp. And set out. At His command. In designated, orderly formation. (Numbers 9:18,23)
Following the Lord.
Narrow place
One of the first stops on their exodus confirms God’s ways are not our ways. In real time.
At His specific direction, they camp between a rock and a hard place.
Backed up to the Red Sea. Facing a massive well-trained Egyptian army—chariots and horses and more.
But this narrow place reveals the wideness of God’s mercy. The depth of His deliverance. His glory.
He opens a way through the sea. And they cross on dry land.
Spiritual battle
From Mt. Sinai, the people journey through wilderness. Again, in a specific order. Following the Lord.
The ark of the covenant travels ahead. Seeking a “resting place” for them (Numbers 11:33).
And each time the ark sets out, Moses prays.
“Arise, Lord! Let Your enemies be scattered, and those who hate you flee from Your Presence.” (Numbers 10:35)
Following the Lord
Oh, the places we pitch our tents. When we’re following the Lord.
For He commissions us to go and make disciples of all nations. Baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And teaching them to obey all He has commanded. (Matthew 28:18-20)
As we set up camp here, or at the ends of the earth. We seek His direction and move at His command. Abiding in Christ. Absolutely dependent on Him.
And we enter a spiritual battle against the enemy of souls.
Prayer
Lord, thank You that Your Presence goes with us. From here to the very ends of the earth.
Clear the way for Your gospel to flow and take root.
Keep us alert and walking in obedience. Ever following You. Ever ready to speak the reason for our hope.
Day by day by day.
Amen.
