We have all we need.
For life. Godliness. And walking by faith in this day and age.
We’re given His Spirit. God’s Word. Prayer. The fellowship of believers.
Every advantage.
Neglect the necessary
Even with all of this.
As well as various helpful tools. For staying in His Word. And walking in the Spirit.
Even in the all. I can neglect the necessary. And fail to deny self.
Fail to surrender.
Temptation
Temptation roars loud. Or subtly seeps in.
But ever appeals to the flesh. Drawing attention to my wants. My needs. Me.
And if I’m not on guard, I grow fascinated with the temptation. Examining the bait.
Instead of focusing on Jesus.
Speaking the language of excuses. And feeding the flesh.
Instead of nourishing the spirit.
Letting pride construct a protective wall along the way. “I can handle this.”
Repentance
The key? Repentance.
Confessing sin. And walking away from the lie.
Redirecting attention to what is noble and true and praiseworthy.
Turning my eyes on Jesus. His Word.
The gospel.
Something so simple can be the whole battle.
All we need
“His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. By these He has given us very great and precious promises, so that through them you may share in the divine nature, escaping the corruption that is in the world because of evil desire.
“For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with goodness, goodness with knowledge, knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with godliness, godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being useless or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
2 Peter 1:3-8 CSB
What about you?
How do you keep your eyes on Jesus day by day? Are there Scripture verses that strengthen your heart in the face of temptation?
