Everything

“Everything you have commanded us we will do, and everywhere you send us we will go” (Joshua 1:16).

No half-hearted maybes. Balking at the unknowns. Questions about personal safety.

No calculating anticipated losses.

Everything and everywhere.

No turning back.

Already secured

Their response to the command stands out.

Why? Because their own land is already secured. Assured. These Reubenites, Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh have their inheritance. Already.

But they made a promise. And they’re committed.

Ready to march alongside the others. And take possession of the promised land for the rest of the Israelites.

We serve

We serve the Risen Savior. Our eternity is secured. And inheritance assured.

We walk in His promises today and always. For He delivered us from captivity to sin and death.

Is the battle grueling at times? Yes.

Do we struggle in the face of so much brokenness and resistance? Yes.

His Commission

But today I consider the clear-eyed strength of these chosen ones. To their commander, Joshua.

And turn my eyes to our Commander. Jesus Christ.

And His Commission.

So plainly delivered. After the Resurrection. Before He ascends to the Father and His eternal throne.

Go and make disciples

“All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you.
And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18-20

Everything and everywhere

He’s the One who steadies our gaze. Strengthens our hearts to respond.

“Everything You command us we will do, and everywhere You send us we will go.”

Everything and everywhere.

By the power of the Holy Spirit.

And He is with us. Always.

What about you?

Have you ever prayed this prayer? “Everything…and everywhere…”? How has the Lord steadied your gaze?

I had not thought about their commitment not having any benefits for them. So often I want to be “productive” and that translates to some kind of result I can see. Thanks for this reminder!

“Everything You command us we will do, and everywhere You send us we will go.” Robert and I were in Poland for 34 days serving at Chelm Baptist Church serving Ukrainian Refugees and the church as they hosted these dear people. When we were asked if we’d go … how can we not go … so after changing our schedules around, God sent us! What a bittersweet blessing it was!

I would love to hear from you!
