Daily bread

“Give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11).

Contentment with what I hold in my hands is fleeting. Feeling it’s not quite enough.

Subtle dissatisfaction. And an inner push for “more than.”

Then, some days, I just ignore the meal set before me.

Distracted. By things less filling.

“My Sabbath”

On Sabbath, the people are eating food from heaven. Manna. Gathered the day before.

Every other day of the week, they’re out getting just enough for their daily needs. But the day before Sabbath they gather double the amount.

Necessary preparation. Before a holy day. His.

“My Sabbath,” God says repeatedly in Scripture.

Day of rest.

Learning Sabbath

Learning Sabbath.

Before
Ten Commandments arrive
engraved in stone,

the Most High God
starts teaching His people
an expectation.
And provision.

Sabbath.

For 40 years
of wilderness training,
He clarifies
this ongoing need
for true rest.
In Him.

With a little thing
called manna
