Crossing Cultures Devotional Memoir

Walking, we wait

My earliest memory of waiting? “Wait a minute. Just hold your horses.”

And the minute is never a minute.

From childhood I push for immediate fulfillment of desires. Quick resolution of problems and struggles. Longing for what’s just out of my reach. The future.

I want it now.

So I hurry up! And wait.

Abiding in Christ

Abiding in Christ. It seems like a given. The common, daily practice of a follower of Jesus.

But in the midst of vision casting and formulating strategies for work and life, abiding in Christ too easily moves to the periphery.

We may take it for granted. Give it only lip service.

Abiding with little and much

Abiding in Christ. It’s how we live and grow as believers. How we stay rooted. And fruitful.

Woman studying the Bible
My parents have taught me by example how to abide in Christ through prayer and the Word. In little and in much.

But what happens when the props are gone? No church down the street or across town. No familiar worship gathering in the heart language.

What happens when you don’t have a list of small group Bible studies to choose from. No Bible study workbooks for purchase.

And the internet is unreliable. Spotty. Occasional.

Perhaps you’ve been there. Or you are there.
