Urgent

Tyranny of the Urgent. Back in the day, this small booklet by Charles E. Hummel captures my attention. And convicts my heart.

He quotes a man who told him, “Your greatest danger is letting the urgent things crowd out the important.”

What crowds out the important in my life today?

Does God see?

Does God see?

In crisis, I cry out. Not knowing how to pray.

Anxious thoughts and inner storms buffeting. Ocean waves pushing me to gasp for air.

Feeling weak.

Does He have a plan in this scary place? Has He forgotten where we are?

Meditate

“Meditate on the word of God.” I hear these words as a child. Not fully understanding what they mean.

But memorize, early on, “I have treasured Your word in my heart, so that I may not sin against You” (Psalm 119:11).

Treasuring His Word.

Learning right and wrong. Wisdom and foolishness. Truth and deceit.

That’s only the beginning.
