Deeper in

Backroads. On the way to somewhere.

And we pass narrow paths disappearing into the woods. Trees tall and leafy obscure our view of where they’re going.

Deeper in.

Then, one day we take a path. Into a national forest.

Deeper in

Branches overhead block sun and sky. Shading us in a world of green.

Quiet.

Except for occasional skittering of small animals. Through leaves from past autumns, thick on the forest floor.

Barely marked and overgrown, the path takes us deeper in. Then, we hear the sound of water. And find a small brook flowing over rocks.

Beauty missed, if we don’t take the time to keep walking and listening.

Exploring

Studying God’s Word is sometimes a turn off the beaten path. The way not always visible at first glance.

But exploring and walking forward takes me deeper in. To water’s flow.

Helping me understand and connect this part of Scripture with what I’ve seen before in other passages.

Taking time

Tried and true. Faithful message in sunlight and shadow.

Delivered by the One who teaches and guides His children with wisdom.

Taking time for backroads and previously unnoticed paths makes for encouraging meditation. Informing the way I live.

Deeper in. With the One who knows the way.

What about you?

Have you been surprised by refreshing streams of water when you simply take time to meditate on His Word? What helps you “keep exploring”?

I thought about it recently – the habit I have of spending the 2nd hour of my day with my Bible & my journal. I know it is His work in my heart that keeps me coming back! And the Holy Spirit is an excellent teacher – always showing me new things in familiar passages.

Thanks for reading. I'd love to hear from you!
