Christmas prophecies. Read and proclaimed. Every Advent. Christmas Eve. Christmas Day.
Among them, Isaiah’s words.
“For to us a child is born,
to us a Son is given,
and the government will be
on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Everlasting Father,
Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6
Grace
Peter says the prophets of old searched. Carefully investigated. Pondered their foretelling of grace.
Considering the mysterious thread of hope. Woven in and out of their own prophetic words.
And the Lord revealed to them: they were not serving themselves. Or the people of their generation.
But speaking of a time to come.
Announcing what they did not fully know.
Immanuel
As believers, we know the Child born. The Son given, because God so loved the world.
We walk in the light those prophecies declared. Rejoicing in Immanuel. God with us.
But every Christmas, unbelievers wander into our homes and churches. Observers of sermons and services. Spectators, if you will.
Prophecies
They hear the prophecies. In song. Or spoken word. See them displayed on walls. Windows. Christmas cards.
Oblivious to their significance. Perhaps curious about what it all means.
And we are called to proclaim this mystery revealed. The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus
Jesus Christ is the unblemished Lamb of God, born in Bethlehem. The Suffering Servant, sacrificed for our sins on the cross.
Buried in a tomb. He resurrected on the third day. Victorious over sin and death.
He is the Prince of Peace. Ascended to heaven. And now seated at the right hand of the Mighty God, Eternal Father.
Yes, we proclaim this grace. And certain hope. In praise of the One and Only.
“Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee!”

I have thought many times how prophets and godly men & women for generations told their children the stories of God’s faithfulness while they waited for His Messiah. I just finished Malachi last week – remembering that 400 years followed. I can just turn the page and read Matthew! How blessed we are!
