Honey

Word of God in the mouth of the prophet. Sweet to the taste. Like honey.

So says Ezekiel. David. And the apostle John.

Word of God, eaten. By Jeremiah.

The words He gives sometimes hit strong with judgment. Jarring.

But even there, sustaining. Healing.

In a world that groans to be made right again.

Ancient honey

In the already-not-yet we read sobering prophecy. Some, fulfilled. Others still unfolding before us.

And Your Word remains. Like ancient honey recently discovered in two countries. Egypt and Georgia. Thousands of years old. Yet still sweet to the taste.

Your Word. Healing the bones of our souls.

Take and eat, You say. Word of God offered. Received.

Sweet as honey

Ezekiel opens his mouth and the Lord feeds him the scroll. Then tells him to speak His words to the people of Israel.

Hard words.

To those refusing to listen to God or His prophets. Those people. Hardheaded. Hardhearted.

But His instructions are clear.

“Son of man, eat what you find here. Eat this scroll, then go and speak to the house of Israel.’…So I ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth….

“Listen carefully to all my words that I speak to you and take them to heart. Go to your people, the exiles, and speak to them. Tell them, ‘This is what the Lord God says,’ whether they listen or refuse to listen.”
Ezekiel 3:1-3, 10-11

Help me

Help me to listen carefully to all Your words, Lord. Not just the ones that make me feel comfortable.

Help me to take Your words to heart. Honey entering into the core of my soul. Healing. Restoring. Making whole as I surrender to Your way.

Help me to speak Your words without compromise. Faithful and true.

Regardless.

“How sweet Your word is to my taste—sweeter than honey in my mouth” (Psalm 119:103).

What about you?

Has the Lord brought reproof and healing to your soul through the honey of His Word?

This makes me think of Jesus’s words. Often hard to hear and shocking to His disciples but they are The Way, The Truth and The Life.
Asking God for mercy to hear and obey His Word

I would love to hear from you!
