We drive up the mountain. Travel the winding road through saguaro forest. Vegetation changing as we climb toward the upper elevation.
And pine trees.
Cool air.
Rock.
Gravel
The stop at Windy Point is one we make every time. Family favorite. Place of memories.
We step onto the path. Slip on gravel. Hike rocky slabs. Take our stand on magnificent boulders.
And gaze out. Across mountains and valleys.
Breathe.
Solid rock
Slippery gravel reminds me. Stay alert. Watch where I place my feet. And keep an eye on the route ahead.
Pause to find the traveled way.
Hiking at this stop teaches the necessity of watching where I’m going. And the wisdom of staying on firm, unmoving terrain. Once you get there.
Solid rock.
Anchored
The psalmist calls the Lord his Rock.
I think of this. Standing on boulders and slabs. Looking up to blue sky.
Unafraid.
The rock I’m on will not give way. It’s anchored firmly in the mountain.
But this is only a shadow. Compared to the true Rock I stand on. Jesus Christ.
Rock of salvation
The Rock of ages not only anchors the foundation beneath my feet. He holds me fast. And never lets go.
I get distracted. Or discouraged. And slip.
Off kilter. Out of balance.
But He holds on. Reminds me what is true and trustworthy.
Leads me back to the firm and life-giving practice. Abiding in Christ. The Rock of my salvation. Dwelling in Him through prayer and the Word.
Day by day by day.
Refuge
“From the ends of the earth I call to You,
I call as my heart grows faint;
lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For You have been my refuge,
a strong tower against the foe.
I long to dwell in Your tent forever
and take refuge in the shelter of Your wings.
For You, God, have heard my vows;
You have given me the heritage of
those who fear Your name.”
Psalm 61:2-5 NIV
What about you?
When have you been reminded to stand firm on the Rock? Do you remember a time when your heart was faint and the Rock became your refuge?

I’m in the faint of heart season and I need to remember to look up! Thanks for sharing!
Praying for you, friend. Let’s continue to remind one another to keep our eyes on Him. Grace to you!
So many times in my life when I’ve felt faint. “Lead me to a rock that is higher than I,” has been a refrain on my lips many, many times. When I feel overwhelmed by a new adventure or life event or just everyday life sometimes. I have always loved the parable of the house built on sand vs house built on rock. He is a sure foundation. He gives me hope even in hardest times. I can trust Him
Amen! Thankful for our sure foundation. GREAT is His faithfulness.
