Beauty of timing

On a drive. After rain. Mist and fog still hang in the air. Limiting the view ahead.

But our eyes glance to the sides of the road. And we see. The beauty of timing.

Revealed. All along the way. Shining in the dark. Through woods, green and deep.

Dogwood in bloom.

Treasure

Cherry and peach blossoms fell and scattered earlier. Removing any doubt of what we’re seeing now.

In passing. In the distance. Fluorescent in the forest.

Singular. Scattered here and there. Like treasure.

And we watch for them. As we drive along.

There!

Beauty of timing

Late winter, early spring cannot display their magnificence. Not like this timely setting. When trees around them stand tall. Fully leaved. Fully green.

The dogwood delay quietly accentuates God’s design. The beauty of timing. His.

Trusted and sure. Yet surprising us at every turn.

Luminous in the shadows.

Waiting

His rooted trees grow. Not on our schedule. But His. Various times. Through differing seasons.

Sometimes we wait. Branches bare. In the middle of a forest. Wrapped in rain and fog.

We wonder if we’re going anywhere. Feeling lonely in the midst of others. Their fruitful lives. And effective service.

But waiting, we stay. Rooted. Abiding in Christ through prayer and the Word.

And eventually buds form. Then flowers. Blooms brilliant in His sun rays.

Beautiful in His timing.

His timing

Maybe you’ll go for a drive one spring. And see the dogwood glow.

Rejoice.

Delight in God’s perfect design.

Declare His ways mysterious and true.

Consider His timing a treasure. Revealing and accentuating the work of the Master Gardener.

Glorious.

“He has made everything beautiful in its time….”
Ecclesiastes 3:11 ESV

What about you?

Have you ever wondered about the waiting? How have you experienced the beauty and glory of His timing?

I think we all have seasons of waiting. Watching the growth or success of those around us is hard to bear sometimes. But when HIS time is right…WOW! I try to keep those times in my heart and give Him my trust in the watching and waiting.

I love reading your notes, your thoughts. We live in the country and when we first moved here, Winter was clearing out in front of the house. There were trees with berries on them and I asked him to not cut them down. At the time we did not realize they were dogwoods. We have enjoyed the beauty of them for close to 20 years now. The older trees are beginning to break down but they are leaving behind new, young generation of little trees for us to enjoy – in God’s timing. Thanks for sharing God’s beauty with us.

How special. Thanks for sharing. I first remember seeing dogwood when I was in college in Birmingham. They bloomed on a hillside directly across from campus. It became my favorite tree.

Dogwoods bring back so many memories of Birmingham!!

There’s many, many times I have waited on the Lord for His timing. Sometimes I can tell right away. Sometimes I still wonder…but I get confirmation.
Sometimes I wonder what might have happened if I started toward the path I’m on currently earlier, but it wasn’t the right timing. I needed to go through some experiences before I got here. Now I find myself getting impatient about some things, but I keep waiting…

A note about spring. When I moved to my first city here, I had the longest winter I’ve ever had. March arrived and I kept expecting warm weather and flowers, but the snow only started melting. Then April was drab and muddy. First blooms happened in May. But it was the right timing because if the flowers had come in March, they would have frozen and died. And from May to September, we had some glorious flowers all over town.

We don’t have dogwood blossoms here in Mid-Coast Maine, but I’m marveling right now over the bright daffodils that are opening their petals a little bit more every single day, my own personal slow-motion Fantasia that never grows old.
Thanks for this lovely meditation that reinforces the truth that even our seasons of waiting are beautiful.

I would love to hear from you!
