Devotional Making Disciples

What are you looking for?

“What are you looking for?”

The question. Directed to two disciples of John. Earlier, they hear their teacher say, “Look, the Lamb of God!” as Jesus walks by. And they take off after Him.

Now they’re trailing behind on the path.

Jesus turns. And asks.

Public square

The words of Isaiah resonate.

“Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands far off.
For truth has stumbled in the public square,
and honesty cannot enter.
Truth is missing,
and whoever turns from evil is plundered.”
Isaiah 59:14f

It sounds like a reading of our day.

Promise

“I promise.”

Absolute guarantee.

Lifetime warranty.

Permanent agreement.

These vows we hear at every turn and transaction.

And, after a while, find ourselves taking them with a grain of salt. As they say.
