Hard-hearted Pharaoh.
Plague after plague,
he refuses the request
or goes back on his word.
Then.
Misery yields his
sudden
confession of sin. [Exodus 10:16-17]

Runaway prophet. Jonah.
Flees something more than a hard assignment. And this catches my eye.
After the storm at sea. After the big fish swallows him whole. After his vow to obey this time.
Even after he proclaims God’s message. To the great city of Nineveh.
He’s still running. From the heart of the One who comes to seek and to save the lost.

“Tear your hearts….” The words grab my attention.
I’m reading the Word of the Lord that came to the prophet. Joel.
Judgment approaches. The Day of the Lord is coming. And God extends the invitation to return to Him.
Even now.
In this season. Advent. As we wait and watch. Anticipating the coming of the Savior.
