Christmas Crossing Cultures Memoir

Entry

Entry into the Christmas season. Sometimes shaped by memories—sweet and hard.

Music fills the air. Old favorites stirring hearts. Touching deep.

Amid the decorating, familiar traditions, and holiday trappings, I stop. Think about the reason behind it all.

Take time to reflect.

And remember.

Full light of Day

Stepping out into early morning air. First breath of dawn. Stillness.

Sky somewhere between dark and light.

Not even visible. Yet. But all creation anticipates the all-out glory of what’s coming.

Streetlights dim. Even the moon and stars fade. At the certain, steady rise of God’s sun.

Full light of day is coming.

Forgiven

Forgiven little? Loving little.

Simon invites Jesus to a meal in his home. Holding Him at arm’s length. Studying the Master.

And in the midst of critical scrutiny, he foregoes the most basic act of hospitality.

Washing the feet of his guest.

Forgiven much. Loving much. Image by William Priess on Unsplash.
