The Lord is my Shepherd.
And He provides. Leads. Renews. Comforts.
Then I come to the table. His table.
“You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies…” (Psalm 23:5).

Shepherd’s table
Shepherd’s table.
After right paths. Even through the darkest valley.
And I wonder at this table You prepare.
Thinking it’s a banquet perhaps. Of the end times. The Day that is coming.
Remember
Then I remember the table. At Passover.
The bread and the wine.
“This is My body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me” (Luke 22:19).
“This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you” (Luke 22:20).
In the presence of enemies. In the presence of the enemy of souls. Remember Jesus.
His table
Remember the cross. The tomb. The Resurrection.
How He leads us out of darkness into His marvelous light.
From hopeless slavery to transforming freedom.
This table says it all.
In deepest valleys and unpredictable dangers of this world, we sit at His table. Inviting others to the goodness and faithful love that pursues us all the days of our lives.
“…and I will dwell in the house of the Lord” for ever.
