God who reveals

He is the God who reveals. And draws people to Himself.

At the school where our children study in Singapore, a woman sees the invitation for mothers to gather and pray.

So, she comes. Curious. Seeking.

I speak her heart language. So we meet later. And I explain the gospel.

In a subsequent meeting, she repents and believes.

Following Christ

We meet weekly. Exploring the basic, life-giving ways of following Christ.

The significance of baptism.

Feeding on the Word day by day.

Prayer.

Fellowship in the Body.

Sharing the gospel with others.

Tell everyone

She tells me about her grandfather, very dear to her. She describes him as a prominent leader of her former religion in her home country.

Then says, “I want to tell everyone in my family about this decision to follow Jesus. I don’t want to be secretive or do anything behind their backs.”

She knows it might cause a rift in their relationship, but she won’t hide her new life, her peace and hope in Christ.

Revelation

One day, she opens her Bible for our study. It falls open to the Book of Revelation. She gasps. Exclaims, “That’s my name!”

Then tells the story.

Her parents tried for many years to have children. So, when she was born, their only child, her grandfather gave her two special names.

The first (the one I know her by) means “bear fruit” or “be fruitful.” The second means “revelation.”

We rejoice together in these significant names as I point out how God revealed Himself to her and she became His child. Now she abides in Christ to bear His fruit.

God who reveals

At the end of that short season, she and I move to other countries. Each one entering new places, strengthened by our times together.

She, walking new roads in what it means to deny self, take up her cross, and follow Jesus.

And I, remembering the God who reveals and draws people to Himself.

He is the Vine. We are the branches.

As we abide in Him, we bear fruit.

His fruit.

What about you?

How have you seen “the God who reveals” at work around you? Are you praying for someone by name to turn and follow Jesus?

I have been praying and sharing with a dear friend for many years – and sometimes I am discouraged when she acts selfishly toward me or seems inconsiderate of my feelings. During one of these frustrating times, God reminded me that I have godly people who speak kindly to me and encourage me – and she does not have anyone (except me) in her life. It has stayed with me.

I love this story. Are you still in touch with her? I pray she will stay faithful even into death and that the Lord will make her more and more fruitful.

Thanks for reading. I'd love to hear from you!
