Builds

The word of the Lord comes to Jeremiah.

Calling out kings.

“Woe to him who builds his house without righteousness,
And his upstairs rooms without justice,
Who uses his neighbor’s services without pay
And does not give him his wages….”
Jeremiah 22:13

But kings. And others.

Stubbornly. Willfully do not listen.

To God’s voice.

Callous builds

Repeated refusal to hear the Word of the Lord?

Ears closed to the voice of God?

Soon a callous builds on the prideful heart. Resistant to the truth.

Turning away from righteousness, a king—and anyone else—builds a house that will fall.

Eventually crumbling on the foundation of sand.

Sin.

The Lord builds

Jesus says,
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.”
Matthew 7:24-25

Lord, give me a heart to hear Your Word.

And listen to Your voice.

Teach me to respond in obedience. As Your servant. Building a house, not on sand but on the Rock.

“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain” (Proverbs 127:1).

What about you?

Are you willing to hear His truth? Or refusing to listen? What helps you respond in obedience to the Lord?

One reply on “Builds”

I was reading a portion of Psalm 119 this morning and rejoicing in the ways God has patiently taught me. It sounds simple but I keep reminding myself that He loves me and knows better than I do what is good for me.

I would love to hear from you!
