Out loud and on the page.
Meditating on God’s Word looks like a little of both.
Voicing the verse.
Writing it by hand.
Sound and touch.
Hearing. Seeing.

Out loud
Speaking the verse out loud.
Repeating it several times so I truly hear the words. And consider the meaning.
Walking or pacing as I repeat, puts the Word in a rhythm in my head.
Memorable.
Making recall easier.
For some reason.
On the page
Other times, I put pen to paper.
Carefully writing down the verse in black and white.
The very act of writing helps me notice.
Connection between words.
Synonyms. Antonyms.
Contrast and communion.
On the page.
As I go
Out loud and on the page keeps close the Word, living and active.
Taking my thoughts captive.
Helping me hear more clearly the message.
Meditating on God’s Word. To make me see the whole.
And take it to heart.
Live it out.
As I go.
Ancient and new
Funny thing. These ways of meditating on God’s Word are nothing new.
God instructs His people in it at various times. Including this occasion during the days of Moses.
“Imprint these words of Mine on your hearts and minds, bind them as a sign on your hands, and let them be a symbol on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your city gates….”
Deuteronomy 11:18-20
So, let’s keep meditating on God’s Word. Out loud. On the page. And as we go.
What about you?
What practice helps you meditate on God’s Word?

I listen to an audio Bible at night, usually the same Scripture that I read that morning. I also have a verse in a prominent spot as a reminder. I use pass phrases on my phone and computer that are reminders too.
Good idea to end the day with audio of the Scripture that started your day! Thanks for sharing these helpful practices.
In recent years, I’ve started reading Scripture out loud to myself, or listening to audio as I read the text. I sometimes engage in Scripture writing as well, working through books at a time.
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing.
