Gods of limited space.
The enemy reasons, “Their gods are gods of the hill country. That’s why they were stronger than we were…. We should fight with them on the plain; and we will certainly be stronger than they” (1 Kings 20:23).
Contained areas. Hills or plains. Mountains or valleys. These are where gods rule. Or so they think.
But the Arameans soon find out. This God is different.

Limited space
In the spring, they take the battle to the plains. And what happens next is telling.
The Arameans fill the landscape. While the Israelites are like “two little flocks of goats.”
Easy win. Right?
But they aren’t expecting this God of those two little flocks. The One who has all authority. In heaven and on earth.
He is not a god of limited space.
Dark places
Sometimes we enter the dark places of rulers and authorities that are not flesh and blood.
Struggling against “cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in the heavens” (Ephesians 6:12).
It can feel like the enemy fills the landscape.
While we sit small. Overwhelmed.
Unlimited
That’s when a reminder is in order. Necessary.
We serve the God of unlimited power. He’s already conquered sin and death. He is with us always.
This is no god of limited space.
So “be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength. Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil” (Ephesians 6:10-11).
What about you?
Have you ever felt like those little flocks of goats battling a great army? How did the Lord strengthen and encourage you?

Thank you for this encouraging reminder!
Sister, you know…! Thankful for you—walking by faith.
I’m easily overwhelmed. God is not! I’m learning to turn to Him quickly instead of spinning my wheels attempting things in my own strength.
Amen, sister!
I often feel this way. Spiritual warfare. Feeling despair about something that I’ve been praying for and there’s no answer yet. A good reminder that the power is the Lord’s and not mine. All things are possible with Him.
Yes and amen!
Living among people that worship many gods, spirits, and ancestors. Trusting the Lord. He will be victorious. Sometimes the Lord says be still; I will fight for you. Pray for D as she is a secret believer living among her family and friends. Pray for R to have strength and discernment.
Praying now. May His Name be glorified.
