On Sabbath, the people are eating food from heaven. Manna. Gathered the day before.
Every other day of the week, they’re out getting just enough for their daily needs. But the day before Sabbath they gather double the amount.
Necessary preparation. Before a holy day. His.
“My Sabbath,” God says repeatedly in Scripture.
Day of rest.

Designated rhythm
Thing is, people forget the miracle of what they’re eating. And falling into routine, they fail to follow God’s specific instructions. His designated rhythm of labor and rest.
Losing sight of what belongs to Him.
These days, I practice a needed daily habit. Of prayer and gathering His Word.
But sometimes I simply follow routine. And forget to remember and meditate on who He is. How He moves and works.
Instead of stopping to “taste and see that the Lord is good,” I eat quickly and go on to the next thing.
“My Sabbath”
Then Sabbath comes around.
More than just a weekly routine. This is part of His plan. Divinely ordained. “My Sabbath.”
If I’m consciously preparing beforehand, I’ll put aside projects and deadlines. Turn off notifications. File away to-do lists. Put away my phone.
And recognize the reset with weekly worship and fellowship. Rest and reflection.
Time set apart. Holy. His.
Helping me breathe. And delight in Him.
Lord of the Sabbath
In his time on earth, Jesus reminds religious leaders, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
It’s under His authority. To fulfill His purpose.
Regular. Worshipful. Renewing. Refreshing. Healing. Restoring.
Helping His children stay alert and ready as we walk in this world. Reminding us: all of it—work and rest—belong to Him.
He is our Shelter.
He is our Shepherd.
He is our true Rest.
What about you?
Do you “Sabbath”? How has this weekly rhythm encouraged you in your walk with Him?

Preparation! I often have good ideas but forget to prepare for times of rest. I don’t make plans on Sundays (outside of church) and rarely make Saturday plans. But I want to be intentional about using that time in ways that fill my cup, in addition to rest.
I’d love to hear what you find restful and refreshing as you do.😊
