Come

“Come and have breakfast.”

Fish and loaves.

Common meal of fishermen. Little boys. Multitudes.

And a meaningful offering by the risen Savior.

Cast the net

Earlier, He’s standing on shore. At daybreak. And the disciples have had a fruitless night of fishing.

“Children, you do not have any fish to eat, do you?”

They don’t know who He is. This stranger, calling out in early light of dawn.

But they say, “No.”

Then He says, “Cast the net on the righthand side of the boat and you will find fish.”

Full net

John hears the directive. Sees the sudden haul of fish. And declares, “It is the Lord!”

That’s all Peter needs, to take action.

He’s plunging into the sea. Heading to shore.

Heading to Jesus.

Fish and bread

And there He is. With charcoal fire going.

Fish baking. Bread made.

“Bring some of the fish you have now caught.”

They do. Dragging the net in.

And counting its contents, evidently. One hundred fifty-three large fish.

Yes, large.

With net intact.

Come

“Come and have breakfast.” Then their resurrected Lord serves them a meal.

The netful. Bread and fish. Invitation to “Come….” All echoes from His earthly journey with them.

Their lives will never be the same again. Turned upside down in the days and years to come.

But for now, there’s comfort and blessed assurance. In ordinary bread and fish. Having breakfast. With Jesus.

He invites us

“Come and have breakfast.”

Jesus meets us in the ordinary. Familiar work. And daily bread.

He invites us to His table. The sustenance of His Word. And assurance of His Presence.

We are strengthened by remembrance. His work on the cross. And His ongoing work in our lives.

Even now, He is all we need.

“Come….”

What about you?

How has He met you in the ordinary places of your life and invited you to His table?

Jesus truly is all we need! Last week a Jewish friend reached out to tell me her daughter is ill & heading to Colorado for brain surgery! I had the privilege of praying for her & her daughter
over the phone. She was very receptive & I thanked Jesus for giving me this opportunity to show love to her & her daughter. She promised to stay in touch so I could pray beyond that conversation.🙏

He provides what we need-sometimes even before we ask. I want to be attentive to Him and not miss that call!

I would love to hear from you!
