Immediately

Immediately. The word rises off the page. In the Gospel of Mark

Chapter after chapter.

His straight-forward style communicating. Sudden change. Right away.

Immediately.

Immediately. In the Gospel of Mark.

Immediately

From fishermen at sea, casting nets. To followers of Jesus, walking with Him through towns and villages.

From leprosy. To skin made new.

From paralysis and a sinful heart. To walking out the door on his own two feet, forgiven.

From deaf and struggling to talk. To hearing and speaking plainly.

From death to life.

Immediately. Exclamation points in the narrative. Punctuating stories about Jesus.

Wait

There’s urgency and movement. Results.

I think about this in the long wait. Prayers prayed. For years. With no evidence of change.

Where is the quick? Soon? Immediately?

When physical pain remains. While spiritual darkness stays. As emotional and mental struggles continue.

In the wait, I ask, “Why, Lord?”

And, “When?”

Mystery

Yet. Through the years, evidence mounts. The mystery of “immediately” is also the mystery of “wait.”

In the wrestling and waiting, the why and when, He’s still at work. And I learn to trust the mystery. Of both time schedules.

Immediately. Wait.

Walking by faith with the One and Only, whose Word is true.

What about you?

Have you seen God work immediately? Have you asked “Why, Lord?” in the waiting? What has God taught you in the mystery?

Susan, what a great study this would be! I think what we tend to forget with words like “immediately” is all the waiting that went before it. We want the immediately without the waiting. God speaks to us through them both.

I have been thinking that time and eternity are both mysteries. 1,000 years = 1 day. It makes no logical sense to us because only time is accessible to us. One day it will be revealed! That day we will understand!

I would love to hear from you!
