It’s one of those days. Weeks. Seasons. In various places and spaces of our life. And I struggle with restlessness. Discontentment. Distraction.
Hungry for something I can’t quite put my finger on.
In the middle of such a season, I read John 4. During morning time in His Word. And pause on the verses that come after the woman at the well heads back to her village.
The conversation between Jesus and His disciples.
Eat something
Remember what Jesus tells them? After he’s met the Samaritan woman?
They come back from the village with lunch and keep urging him, “Rabbi, eat something.”
But He says, “I have food to eat that you don’t know about.”
It always makes me smile. The disciples trying to decipher this. Without asking Him directly.
They say to one another, “Could someone have brought him something to eat?”
My food
In one simple statement, Jesus solves the mystery and changes the focus. From physical to spiritual food.
“My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work,” (John 4:32-34).
In the middle of my restlessness, the truth pierces. To the core. And I write. In freeform. Down the page of my notebook.
Make us hungry
Is the vague
discontentment
dissatisfaction
we sometimes
live with
really a hunger
for Your kind
of food?
A hunger to
do the will of
the One who
sent us
and to finish
the work,
Your work?
Make us hungry
‘til we do it!
Walk in His ways
Like the disciples, I don’t always recognize what’s going on. The “why” of this inner question. About fulfillment and contentment. And soul rest.
But the Master speaks what is true. And calls me to walk in His ways. Waiting by the well. Meeting on the path. Engaging online across the world.
And sharing words of Living Water.
What about you?
What has He taught you on the restless days? In your seasons of discontent? Are you hungering for His food? What spurs you on to love others and do the will of God?

So real and right on!! Thank you! the word of STEADFAST: “steadfast and immovable” “steadfast love of the Lord”. Make me so Lord!
Amen, sister! A great word. We press on.
“Since you call on a Father who judges each man’s work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear.” Yesterday’s reading that parted the clouds in my heart and helped me realize that I am outside the culture for a reason.
Yes. Abiding in Him. As we live in this world but not of it. Thank you for sharing.
