“So those who were scattered went on their way preaching the Word” (Acts 8:4).
Scattered. After Stephen’s death by stoning. After great persecution broke out against the church.
Scattered, they proclaimed.
Spreading the gospel.

“The way of the cross leads home….”
In worship settings of my childhood, the hymn marched. Triumphant. Its lyrics sung with gusto.
In later years, the words hit differently. Move me into quiet consideration. Thoughtful meditation.
On how this is lived out. Day by day.
“It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables” (Acts 6:2).
And Stephen is chosen. To wait on tables.
Doing so full of grace.
Full of God’s power.
Faithful in the ways of the Lord.
