“Watch and pray.”
Jesus said this to His followers. In the hours leading up to His arrest and trial and crucifixion.
Garden of Gethsemane. Place of excruciating surrender.
“Not my will, but Yours be done.”
Did they remember?
Did they remember this in the stunning events that followed?
When night came mid-day and their beloved Master hung dying on a wooden cross?
“Watch and pray.”
Did they practice this on the Sabbath. When all was lost?
And hope lay entombed?
Watch and pray
Sabbath. The silence of that day is telling.
Sometimes there are no words.
Grief and sorrow come in waves.
Confusion.
It all happened so rapidly. Before they were ready.
Now all they can do is watch and pray.
Resurrection
But the day following Sabbath is coming.
Sunday morning.
And resurrection.
Nothing will ever be the same again.
Today we walk in that foundational hope.
Abiding in the living Christ.
As we watch and pray.
What about you?
When did you hear about the resurrection of Jesus Christ? Have you told someone lately about the reason for your hope?

Thank you, Susan, for your powerful comments each week! I appreciate you!
Thank you, sister.
I casually mentioned yesterday at church that it was Palm Sunday and was surprised that a young man in the group didn’t know what that meant. So I got to tell the story and remind us all of the reason this week is important. May we never take it for granted!
Amen!
