Look for the living

Early morning dark.
Dawn, only a whisper
in the air.
We walk. Step by step.
Following a road
to the place of tombs
and death.
Slow in sorrow.
Wrapped in the fog
of grief.
Not looking for the living
among the dead.

Restless

Yesterday’s
Sabbath rest
found us restless.
Numb. Grey.
In the mix of
sadness and fear.
So, now we walk. Step by step.
Hold burial spices.
Carry the
fragrance of loss.
Crucifixion memories
coming in waves.

Barrier

Only certain of the
task at hand.
Doing what we
know to do. Now.
With one concern.
Who will move the stone?
Heavy. Sealed. Guarded.
Barrier.
But we keep on going.
Not looking for
the living
among the dead.

He is not here

The unexpected awaits.
Open door. Full access.
And empty burial cloths.
Then, bright, shining
messengers.
Chasing dark away.
Asking,
“Why do you look for
the living
among the dead?
He is not here.
He has risen!”

Remember

“Remember
how He told you.
While He was still
with you….”
How could we forget?
Breathless.
We drop everything
and run.
Afraid. Amazed.
Hardly able to believe
this is happening.
We must go and tell…

Resurrected

Suddenly,
the Resurrected Christ.
Standing
right before our very eyes.
Meeting us
where we are
on this newly-found
road of joy.
We fall at
His pierced feet.
Worship.
Alleluia! He is alive!

Look for the Living One

Today, look for the Living One.
The Risen Lord.
Jesus Christ.
He says,
“I am the resurrection
and the life.
The one
who believes in me,
even if he dies, will live.
Everyone who lives
and believes in me
will never die.
Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26

How beautiful 🙏 I have often meditated on these passages and each time there is something new. “Open door. Full access” meaningful words that make all the difference!

Thank you, sister. I love how Matthew lets us know these women sat across from the tomb and saw the stone rolled into place. They knew what they were up against. The Lord is so loving and kind to give us His Word.

“Today, look for the living one” wow! Don’t I need to read that every.single.day! So good Susan. Thank you for using your gift with words to encourage my heart today.

This touched me. I could really put myself in the place of the women! What a shock, going from sorrow to disbelief to joy to worship!
Thanks for this!!

Susan your words are so meaningful as we anticipate and prepare to worship our risen Savior. Blessings, Evelyn

I would love to hear from you!
