Broken pieces

In December, a treasured necklace from Japan falls on the floor. Breaks.

And I get on my knees. Gathering broken pieces. Fragments.

Trying to put the puzzle back together. But it sits.

Incomplete.

So I place what remains in a bowl. Not ready to give up on it yet. Perhaps a shard or two skittered under a cabinet.

Broken pieces.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year!

Look back at 2023 with grace and thanksgiving. Great is His faithfulness.

Look at today with assurance. His mercies are new every morning.

Look toward the future with hope. No matter what this next year holds, He is Sovereign and His steadfast love never ceases!

“Do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be afraid, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you;
I will help you;
I will hold on to you
with my righteous right hand.”
Isaiah 41:10

Something more

Christmas approaches. Like a freight train. It’s that time of year.

Loud in commercials and sales. Glitz and glitter. Richly-colored wrapping and ribbons and bows.

Bright trees. Exquisite nativities. Christmas baking on point.

And the music. Playlists mixing winter themes and manger scenes. O Holy Night and a blue Christmas without you.

In the midst of it all? Hunger for something more.
