The servants know.
They’re going about assigned duties. Ordinary behind-the-scenes labor. Keeping food and drink flowing at the wedding feast.
But then the unthinkable happens.
“They have no wine” (John 2:3).

Whatever
One of the family friends, Mary, takes charge in that moment of shortfall. And brings her son Jesus over to them.
She simply says, “Do whatever he tells you” (John 2:5)
To be honest, his instructions seem a little odd. Confusing.
To say the least.
Follow instructions
“Fill the jars with water” (John 2:7).
Six stone water jars. Used for ritual purification. Each holding 20-30 gallons.
Fill them for what? Is some kind of purification ritual about to take place? In the middle of the wedding feast?
But they follow instructions.
Fill them to the brim.
The servants know
Next, Jesus says, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast” (John 2:8).
This is when the servants know. They can’t help but notice.
The water has changed.
And the master of the feast says to the groom, “Everyone serves out the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now” (John 2:10).
He doesn’t know where it came from.
But the servants know (John 2:9).
Miraculous
“Do whatever He tells you.”
Sometimes His instructions seem odd to us. They don’t make sense. But as His servants we learn the necessity of obedience.
And as we follow Him, Jesus reveals to us Kingdom glory.
We watch God do what only He can do. Changing ordinary hearts and lives with the extraordinary gospel.
Miraculous, indeed.
And His servants know.
What about you?
How have you seen His glory revealed through simple obedience?
